Hill Foundation and Hill Foundation Chevening Scholars have been granted by the Rhodes Trust associate status and they are invited to Rhodes house functions. Please see the letter of support from the former Warden of Rhodes House.
The Rhodes Trust was established and endowed by the Will of Cecil John Rhodes. Cecil Rhodes designed his Trust for the purpose of educating future leaders of the world. He had studied at Oxford and felt that its organisation especially fostered broad views and personal development. A product of his time, he thought that peace, progress and prosperity would be led by the most developed economic powers which he saw as advanced civilisations.
The Oxford Russia Fund (ORF) was set up in 2005 by a group of alumni of Oxford University who share an interest in Russian history and culture and who were looking for ways to support the universities of Russia in an era of very rapid change.
A Trust was formed (registered as a UK Charity) with the main aim of funding competitive scholarships and also a programme of research fellowships for young academics. The project has evolved rapidly and now works through a network of Coordinators in universities located right across the great landmass of the Russian Federation.
The scholarships and fellowships, chosen by the universities, are granted across the whole range of the arts, humanities and social sciences. ORF has decided to specialise in these fields because other institutions now exist in Europe and the US, which collaborate with Russian universities in the 'hard' sciences and in business studies.
